ANDREA PLOCH

Andrea Ploch is a Venezuelan American artist who weaves together color, yarn, and foliage into works that pulse with symbolic meaning. Each piece is a deeply personal act of witness: To her shifting environment, her evolving inner world, and the memories that continue to shape who she is.

MADRID-based Artist

The “Pandemic Series” was an exhibition that captured the psychological, emotional, and spiritual responses to the unprecedented life event that was the COVID-19 pandemic. Painted from 2020 to 2022, the pieces explored the reality of living in a world that has been drastically altered by the global health crisis.

The PAndemic Series

In 2023, following the end of a significant relationship, Ploch embarked on a solo journey through Latin America, a trip that would prove quietly transformative.

Feature PIece: The Two FRIDAS

At El Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, she stood before Frida Kahlo's “The Two Fridas” (1939), a monumental self-portrait painted in the wake of Kahlo's first divorce from Diego Rivera. The image of the exposed, severed heart struck Ploch with startling intimacy, mirroring her own emotional fracture, while the second figure's full, vibrant heart pointed toward something she was reaching for: Healing, wholeness, a life beyond the pain. That encounter became the seed for two companion pieces exploring the tender, often brutal duality of loving and losing.
Andrea Ploch's paintings burst with irrepressible joy: Whimsical, surreal compositions rendered in bold, luminous color that celebrate the beauty of being alive. Rooted in a deep belief in symbolism, her work layers playful imagery with quiet meaning, inviting viewers into dreamlike spaces where the fantastical and familiar coexist. Each piece pulses with vibrant energy, a reminder that color itself can be an act of joy.
